Application Procedures
Step 1: Download and complete the Mississippi Notary Public Application

You will need to complete the application, and then submit both the application and a $25.00 statutory fee to the Mississippi Secretary of State at the following address.

If the application is complete and accompanied by the fee, the Secretary of State transmits it to the Governor. If the Governor approves the application, a pre-Commission Certificate is mailed to the applicant. The applicant is not a notary at this point.
New and Renewing Notary Packages Renewing Notary Packages do not come with a notary journal
Our New and Renewal Notary Packages include your required $5,000 Mississippi Notary Bond. The State of Mississippi requires purchasing your notary bond, which you will need to send along with your notary application. The price for this notary bond is the same if purchased with one of our packages or purchased separately.
Step 2: After receiving the Pre-Commission Certificate, order your $5,000 Surety Bond from The Notary's Store.
After receiving the pre-commission certificate, the applicant must obtain the proper $5,000 Mississippi notary bond and oath form. The bond should not be obtained prior to receiving the pre-commission certificate.

These packages also include your required Mississippi Notary Seal/Stamp and Mississippi Notary Journal, and other needed notary supplies at a special reduced price, or you can order your bond separately. Once you have your official bond you may proceed with step 3.
The applicant should make certain he or she has signed the bond as principal, and signed the oath in the presence of a notary. You will need to make arrangements to have a notary public take your acknowledgment under oath or affirmation that the information provided in the application is true. The surety bond and oath should be mailed to the Mississippi Secretary of State's Office.

The law requires that the Insurance Commissioner and the Governor approve the surety bond before a commission can be issued. Once both officials have approved the bond, the Secretary of State's Office will mail the applicant his or her original Commission Certificate.
Step 3: Order your Official Seal and other supplies from The Notary's Store.
Once you have received your Commission Certificate and have all the information necessary, you can purchase your required notarial seal and notary journal, if you have not already purchased them. Please visit The Notary's Store you will be entering the Mississippi section for your official notary supplies. Your required Mississippi Notary Seal/Stamp and Mississippi Notary Journal are available for purchase. To order, enter the required information and scroll down through the page to locate the Mississippi notary seal/stamp and Mississippi notary journal and any other products you desire, and follow the instructions through checkout. Once you have your official seal and journal you are ready to perform notarial acts.
Note: An Errors and Omissions Insurance Policy is not required by law, but may be purchased as it protects the notary public and pays for any charges the notary might owe for legal fees and costs should the notary be sued.
