Application Procedures
New and Renewing Notary Packages Renewing Notary Packages do not come with a notary journal
Our New and Renewal Notary Packages DO NOT include your required $7,500 Kansas Notary Bond. The State of Kansas requires purchasing your notary bond, which you will need to send along with your notary application.
Step 1: Order the $7,500 Kansas Notary Bond, application form and official seal from Notary Rotary, Inc
Please visit the Notary Rotary online store by using the following link: Kansas Notary Supplies. Enter the store for your Kansas notary bond and application (the application is officially entitled "Appointment Form," which can also be accessed here.) You will also need to order your official Kansas notary seal at this time, as its impression is required on the application.
Although there is no statutory requirement in Kansas that a notary public keep a log book or journal, it is recommended that a notary public keep one for his or her own records and protection from liability. A record of notarial acts will help in determining what really happened if one of your notarial acts is ever called into question. The journal sold in the Notary Rotary online store was specifically designed for notaries public and functions as a perfect Kansas notary journal.
To order, enter the required information, scroll down through the product listings to locate the bond and application form, official seal, and any other supplies you may need and follow the onscreen instructions through checkout. Your supplies will be sent as soon as your order can be processed, usually within two to three days.
Step 2: Complete the application form according to the instructions provided
Once you receive your supplies from Notary Rotary, you may complete the application according to the instructions provided. You will need to contact a commissioned notary public in your area to witness and notarize your signature on the application. The Find a Notary feature from Notary Rotary can be helpful in contacting a notary public. Click Find a Notary, enter your home ZIP code, and click search for a list of notaries public in your area.
After completing your application in full you will need to mail it along with a check or money order in the amount of $25.00 made payable to the "Secretary of State", to the following address. Be sure to make a copy of the actual bond for your records.
Kansas Secretary of State
Memorial Hall, 1st Floor
120 S.W. 10th Avenue
Topeka, KS 66612-1594
(785) 296-2239
Step 3: Wait for the office of the Secretary of State to prepare and send your Certificate of Appointment
Upon receipt of a completed application with sufficient bond, an oath of appointment, the correct fee, the official signature and an impression of the seal to be used by such notary public; the Secretary of State, if satisfied the applicant is qualified to be appointed as a notary public, shall prepare a certificate of appointment for the applicant and forward the appointment to the applicant's residence. Each certificate of appointment shall contain at least the applicant's name and the date upon which the appointment shall expire.
Since you have already purchased all your required supplies in step 1, once you receive the certificate of appointment from the Secretary of State you will be an official notary public for the State of Kansas.
Note: An Errors and Omissions Insurance Policy does not replace a bond, but will help to repay the bonding company if a claim is ever made. Errors and Omissions is not required by law, but may be purchased as it protects the notary public and pays for any charges the notary might owe for legal fees and costs should the notary be sued.
