Washington Notary Public Application

Once you have downloaded the application, complete all sections according to the provided instructions.

New and Renewing Notary Packages
New and Renewing Notary Packages
Renewing Notary Packages do not come with a notary journal

Our New and Renewal Notary Packages DO NOT include your required $10,000 Washington Notary Bond. The State of Washington requires purchasing your notary bond, which you will need to send along with your notary application.

Step 2: Order your Washington Notary Supplies from The Notary's Store but you will need to order your notary bond separately.

Each applicant for the office of notary public for the State of Washington is required to purchase a 4-year $10,000 notary bond.

When you first apply and each time you renew your appointment, the Notary Learning Center has the $10,000 surety bond required by our state. The surety bond must cover the four-year period of the notary public term. Your name on the surety bond should be identical to your name and your signature on the application form. Please visit The Notary's Store you will be entering the Washington section for your official notary supplies. We offer a New Notary Supply Package and a Renewing Notary Supply Package which include your required, Washington Notary Seal/Stamp and officially recommended Washington Notary Journal, and other needed notary supplies at a special reduced price, but you will need to order your required $10,000 Washington Notary Bond separately. To order, enter all required information and scroll down through the page to locate the notary packages, or you can purchase your notary supplies separately. Follow the onscreen instructions through checkout and your supplies will be sent to you as soon as your order is processed, and will ship in usually no more than 1 business day. Once you have your official bond and have made a copy of the actual bond for your records you may proceed with step 3.

Note: An Errors and Omissions Insurance Policy does not replace a bond, but will help to repay the bonding company if a claim is ever made. Errors and Omissions is not required by law, but may be purchased as it protects the notary public and pays for any charges the notary might owe for legal fees and costs should the notary be sued.

When your surety bond arrives, you will need to make a copy to send with your application and you will keep the original.

Step 3: Check the Application and Surety Bond for accuracy and submit the Application

Look over the application and make sure the information is accurate and complete. You will need to have the oath on the application form administered to you by a notary and your signature on it notarized. When you are certain everything is correct and complete send the application, a copy of the surety bond and a $30.00 check or money order made payable to "Washington State Treasurer" to the following address:

Notaries Public Unit
Department of Licensing
PO Box 9048
Olympia, WA 98507-9048

Once you have sent in your surety bond and application you will need to wait for the Department of Licensing to send your commission materials to you before moving to step 4.

Step 4: Order your Official Seal and any other supplies you may need from The Notary's Store

Please revisit The Notary's Store you will be entering the Washington section for your official notary supplies. To order, enter the required information and scroll down through the page to locate any other products you desire, and follow the instructions through checkout. Once you receive your supplies you will be ready to begin your duties as a notary public for the State of Washington.
